MICASADECO THE PARK

This project marks the creation of “MICASADECO THE PARK,” a new concept developed as part of the rebranding of “MICASADECO & CAFE,” which currently operates three locations across Japan.
The site is located within “NANONIWA” a commercial complex built on the historic grounds of the former ancient capital, Naniwanomiya, on the southern side of Osaka Castle.

The design was developed by drawing inspiration from the identity of “MICASADECO” as a Japan-born brand and the history of the former capital, Naniwanomiya, while also reflecting the multicultural
background of the brand, shaped in part through branding informed by the owner’s international experience. Traditional Japanese elements were reinterpreted in a contemporary and alternative manner, with the aim of establishing a unique style that transcends the conventional boundaries between Japanese and Western aesthetics.

As the site opens onto a lawn and expansive sky, the interior walls were finished in neutral tones to embrace and reflect the openness of the surrounding environment.
A centrally positioned counter accommodates takeaway demand while also functioning as a stage for tea preparation performances.

Green glazed tiles inspired by the surrounding landscape were applied to the counter, bringing movement into the interior while creating a visual connection with the greenery outside.
Above it, a custom suspended lighting fixture finished in copper plating was installed, serving as an element that draws people into the space.

For the painted surfaces, water-based paints produced by “OPTIMUS,” an affiliated company of “MICASADECO,” were adopted.
After extensive experimentation, a custom coating was developed for the seating area walls, creating a textured finish with the depth and richness of hand-applied plaster while retaining the material’s original
functional qualities, such as antibacterial and thermal insulating properties.

The project aspires to become the new face of “MICASADECO,” cultivating its distinct identity while providing an open and refreshing environment where a diverse range of people can spend time comfortably.
